Virtual contemplation space created during the lockdown.
It was meant to be the home of the future: a concept home combining technology and quality of life, a place where one could live well.
And yet, this house is now part of the past. I designed it during the pandemic, shortly before the death of my partner. It is a virtual and magnified trace of our confined life.
Why was I drawn to imagine a technological future rather than live in the present? Why did I create imaginary people instead of portraying us as we are?
A year later (November 2023), I visited back the concept home, and decided to make it a virtual space for contemplation: a place of meditation open to all, and a reminder – even more so than in the original concept – that technology is in the service of living together.
Its architecture is inspired by the luxury house videos my partner and I used to watch on YouTube, by our last trip to the Cyclades, and the early design projects that were emerging from AI and virtual reality at the time.
Maison du futur

Cela devait être la maison du futur: un concept alliant technologie et qualité de vie, un endroit où il fait bon vivre.
Et pourtant, cette maison fait maintenant partie du passé. Je l’ai conçue durant la pandémie, un peu avant le décès de mon partenaire. Elle est une trace virtuelle et magnifiée de notre vie confinée.
Pourquoi ai-je voulu imaginer ce futur technologique plutôt que de vivre le moment présent? Pourquoi y ai-je représenté un couple lambda plutôt que de nous y représenter, nous?
Un an plus tard (en novembre 2023), j’ai revisité cette maison. Et j’ai décidé de la transformer en espace virtuel de contemplation: un lieu de méditation ouvert à tous, et rappel – encore plus qu’à sa conception d’origine – que la technologie est au service du vivre-ensemble.
Son architecture est inspirée par les vidéos de maisons de luxe que mon partenaire et moi aimions regarder sur YouTube, par notre dernier voyage dans les Cyclades, et les premiers projets de design qui émergeaient alors de l’IA et la réalité virtuelle.

I lived in Paris, he lived in London. The lockdown and remote work gave us the opportunity to live together.
I reconsidered my digital nomad habits and learned to feel at home, to live with him in this home of the future.
I was designing my artistic projects on my computer screen, while he was producing his YouTube videos in our bedroom.
During the lockdown, his apartment became a workplace, a gym, and a production studio all in one.
How good it was to live each moment as if it were eternity.
Imaginer le futur, c’est tenter de rattraper le temps perdu.
Je vivais à Paris, lui à Londres. Le confinement et le travail à distance nous donnèrent l’opportunité de vivre ensemble.
Je reconsidérais mes habitudes de nomade numérique et apprenais à me sentir chez moi, à vivre avec lui, dans cette maison du futur.
Je concevais mes projets artistiques sur mon écran d’ordinateur, lui créait ses vidéos Youtube dans notre chambre.
Avec le confinement, son appartement était devenu à la fois bureau, salle de sport et studio de production.
Qu’il était bon de vivre chaque instant comme une éternité.
My work was in virtual reality. Everything seemed possible.
I bought a virtual reality headset, and he was fascinated. Everything will be simpler with new technologies. A few hours a day in virtual reality would be enough to make a living and spend the rest of the time together.
I was finalising the posters for my digital art project Sauna and Solar. He liked it a lot, like everything I did.

I wish future technologies could allow us to live longer like this, instead of just keeping our memories
J’aurais tant aimé que les technologies du futur nous permettent de vivre plus longtemps ainsi, plutôt que d’en garder le souvenir.
